Smart, Sly & Social: A Deep Dive into Corvids
Sunday April 13, 2025 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Location: Dungeness River Nature Center – Rainshadow Hall
Price: $20
Presenter: Ken Wiersma
Ravens, Crows, and Jays, members of the Corvid family, are year-round residents of our Olympic Peninsula. This program explores the rich history of these birds as imbedded in the regional Native American culture and interactions with the exploration and settlement of the Pacific Northwest by European peoples. It includes recent insights into the range and behavior adaptations occurring in Corvid populations stimulated by Climate Change. This program improves your enjoyment and understanding of these omnipresent, intelligent birds. Program may include a short walking field trip to view the Corvids in Railroad Bridge Park (weather permitting). Bring your binos, or borrow a pair from us; spotting scopes also welcome. Also bring your experiences and questions from your interactions with Corvids. Program will be led by Dungeness River Nature Center volunteer Ken Wiersema, and richly illustrated with the work of local photographers.
