Beach Lake and Estuary: Meets at the Beach Lake parking area, Lower Elwha Road east of Stratton Rd, Port Angeles. Drive time from Dungeness River Nature Center: 40 min. From River Rd and Hwy 101 in Sequim: Drive west on Hwy 101 through Port Angeles for 13 miles. Take a slight right onto E Front St. Travel for 2 miles, then a slight right onto W Marine Dr.  Travel .3 miles, then turn left on Tumwater Truck Rd. Rt 117.  Travel for 1.1 miles, then turn right onto Lauridsen Blvd.  Travel for 3.2 miles (Lauridsen Blvd becomes Edgewood Dr after 1.5 miles), then turn right onto Lower Elwha Rd.  After .7 miles, stay left onto Kacee Way and travel for 1.4 miles.  At the Casino, continue north on Stratton Rd for .7 miles.  Stratton Rd ends at Lower Elwha Rd.  Turn right and the small gravel parking lot (with porta potties) for the Beach Lake Conservation Area is on the left.

Birding Dungeness Spit and Adjacent Forests: Meets at the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge parking lot, 554 Voice of America Rd, Sequim. Drive time from Dungeness River Nature Center: 20 min. From Sequim Avenue and Highway 101: Go west on 101 (toward Port Angeles) for 4.6 miles. Turn right (north) on Kitchen-Dick Road. Drive 3.2 miles, at which point the road makes a right curve to the east and becomes Lotzgesell Rd. Drive 0.1 mile. Turn left (north) on Voice of America Road. Drive 1.0 miles on the main road (past the campgrounds) to the far parking lot at the entrance of the NWR. We will meet at the entrance to the NWR trail.

Birding Sequim Bay and John Wayne Marina: Meets at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s Native Art Gallery, 1033 Old Blyn Hwy. Drive time from River Center: 20 min. From Sequim Avenue and Highway 101: Go East (toward Seattle) 6.4 miles. Go past Seven Cedars Casino; turn left onto Blyn Crossing, and then right onto old Blyn Highway. The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Administrative complex will be on the left; the Alderwood Room is to the left of the twin totem poles on the Dance Plaza. Park in the parking lot or across the street.

Birding Three Crabs and Dungeness Bay: Meets at Dungeness Landing County Park, 298 Oysterhouse Rd, Sequim. Drive time from Dungeness River Nature Center: 15 mi. From Sequim Avenue and Highway 101: Drive north on Sequim Avenue (towards Dungeness and the Strait of Juan de Fuca) 6.0 miles. Please note that at the 5 mile mark (near the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse), Sequim-Dungeness Way turns off to the right and the main road continues across the Dungeness River, becoming Anderson Rd. Continue on Anderson Rd. across the river, to Marine Drive (0.5 miles). Turn right (north) on Marine drive and continue for 0.3 miles. There will be a three way intersection – Marine Drive goes to the left, Twinview Drive goes to the right, and Oysterhouse Road goes off in between the other two. Follow Oysterhouse Road down into the Dungeness Landing Park, and park near the restrooms.

Birds and Beauty: Along the Strait to Salt Creek: Meets at restrooms near boat launch on Ediz Hook Rd, Port Angeles. Drive time from Dungeness River Nature Center: 35 min. From River Rd and Hwy 101 in Sequim: Drive west on Hwy 101 through Port Angeles for 13 miles. Take a slight right onto E Front St. Travel for 2 miles, then a slight right onto W Marine Dr.  Travel .4 miles, then keep left to stay on W Marine Dr. Travel 1.3 miles on W Marine Dr with the marina on your right and through the paper mill.  Continue onto Ediz Hook Rd for approximately 1.6 miles.  A small clump of trees on the right at Harbor View Park and the cinderblock restroom building will be on the left.

Birds of the Elwha River: Meets at the Mouth Of The Elwha Beach Trailhead, Port Angeles. Drive time from Dungeness River Nature Center: 45 min. From River Rd and Hwy 101 in Sequim: Drive west on Hwy 101, following the signs in Port Angeles for Hwy 101 Do not turn left on Lincoln but proceed west on Front Street until bearing right onto Marine Dr, in about 2 blocks turn left at the traffic light onto 117 (Tumwater) proceed for 1.2 miles until intersection with 101 W (slight right). Continue on Hwy 101 for 4.6 miles, turn right onto Hwy 112. Follow Hwy for 4.2 miles and take a right on Place road and follow for 1.9 miles. Then take a right on to Elwha Dike rd and park at the end.

Gardiner Beach & Diamond Point: Meets at the Gardiner Boat Ramp, near 605 Gardiner Beach Rd, Sequim. Drive time from Dungeness River Nature Center: 20 min. From Sequim Avenue and Highway 101: Go east on 101 (toward Seattle) for 11.4 miles. Turn left onto Gardiner Beach Rd for 0.1 miles. At stop sign, turn left onto Old Gardiner Rd, then immediately right onto Gardiner Beach Rd. for 0.5 miles.  After the left curve in the road, the boat ramp parking area will be on the left.

Lower Dungeness Bird Walk with North Olympic Land Trust: Meets at the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2769 Towne Rd, Sequim, WA 98382. Drive time from Dungeness River Nature Center: 15 mi. From Sequim Avenue and Highway 101: Drive north on Sequim Avenue (towards Dungeness and the Strait of Juan de Fuca) 6.0 miles. Take a slight left turn onto Towne Road and the parking lot will be on your right.

Neah Bay Birding by Land & Sea: Meets at Clallam Bay County Park, near the intersection of WA Hwy 112 and Frontier St, in Clallam Bay. Drive time: allow 2 hours. 

From River Rd and Hwy 101 in Sequim: Drive west on Hwy 101, following the signs through Port Angeles for Hwy 101.  When about 5.5 mi west of Port Angeles, you have two options to drive to Clallam Bay: 1) Take WA Hwy 112 through Joyce to Clallam Bay, or 2) Take Hwy 101 to Sappho, turn right on WA Hwy 113, which then connects to WA Hwy 112 before Clallam Bay.  The two options take about the same time, but the first option covers a shorter distance driving a winding road at slower speeds, and the second option covers a longer distance but not so curvy, often driving at highway speeds.

While driving through the town of Clallam Bay from the east, Hwy 112 heads downhill past the school and takes a sharp left turn. During that turn, watch for a brown sign on the right for the County Park and immediately turn right into the Park’s parking lot. There are public restrooms and signs about shipwrecks on the Clallam coastline. From here you will follow Bob to several stops along the beautiful coast for some birding opportunities and then on to the town of Neah Bay and Hobuck Beach Resort.

To reach Hobuck Beach from Neah Bay, from the west end of Bayview Ave (Neah Bay’s “main drag”) take the Cape Flattery Rd towards Cape Flattery, then after about 2.5 miles turn left onto Hobuck Beach Rd across the Waatch (spelled correctly!) River bridge and then right on Makah Passage (dirt) to Hobuck Beach. Please stop at the check-in office near the Hobuck Beach Campground entrance to locate your cabin and pick up your Makah Recreational Use Permit (included in your fare). The permit must be placed on the windshield of your vehicle while on the Makah reservation.
