Each of us finds joy in watching our local feeder birds, hummingbirds, thrushes, finches, swallows, swans, plus an occasional Bald Eagle. As we enjoy the sights and sounds of birds in our yards and community, we also encounter birds we may tend to dislike. This program explores a diverse group of birds many birdwatchers dislike or misunderstand.

We can find in this group: European Starlings, House Sparrows, gulls, Barred Owls, crows, cormorants, and vultures. Most of these dislikable birds are native to our state and North America; some are introduced. Human activities, climate changes, and habitat modification draw these birds to our region either by our deliberate action, or by inadvertent misadventure. Please join us for a program that will feature photos, data, anecdotes, and videos of local birds you might well consider dislikable. We encourage attendee interactions — however, please leave your rocks and bag of overripe tomatoes at home!
